ニューヨーク開催の巨大音楽フェスの The Meadows Music & Arts Festival、サンフランシスコ開催のテックカンファレンス TechCrunch Disrupt と、立て続けに参加したイベントで、ドキドキのボールアプリをエクストリーム利用して来ました。 思いの外多くの発見と洞察が得られたので、メモを残しておきますね! 音声データは大量であればあるほど良い!と思っていたのですが、実際にはむしろ「少なければ少ないほど良い!」だったことが良く判りました。 16秒以内の音声データで、いかに簡潔に面白く、リアルにその場の出来事を伝えられるか?が大事。なので、ニュースレポーターのようなセンスやノウハウがとても活きると思います。データ量は要らない。むしろ、短く簡潔な、少量のコンテンツが良いのです。 音声のソーシャルであることを意識するあまり、その音源のみで伝達することに集中していたのですが、説明抜きの音源のみでは、なかなか状況や情景が伝わらない。その音源が活きるには、サウンドだけでなく「言葉を用いた情報の伝達(説明)がとても大事」なのだという事がよく判りました。 言葉をその場で即吹き込めるボールですから、言葉を通じて状況や情景を伝えるのはとても簡単。しかも音楽フェスなら、その場の音楽そのもの。テック・カンファレンスなら、例えば起業家ピッチなどの音源もそのまま同時に伝えることができるのです。 音楽やイベントを伝える以上、途切れないことや音質が大事なの!という囚われは強くありました。が、どうもそうではない。 もちろん音楽鑑賞やイベントの共有など考えると、途切れなく長く取り続けられることや音質の良さは大事なポイントになるのですが、ボールの16秒マックスのソーシャル体験においては、音声は途切れて良いし、むしろ小気味よく切り取られているブツ切り状態が好ましい。 音質もこだわり過ぎるとデータ容量が増える=通信速度が落ちるので好ましくありません。むしろ、そこそこの音質で十分なのです。 音声を録音する人向けのインターフェイスとして開発されたボールですが、もちろん音声コンテンツが増えるという意味では録音し易さは大いに注力すべき機能性になります。 ですが、アプリの成長を継続ドライブするのは、何はともあれ「聴く人の存在」です。そして「聴く人が、やがて録る人に転換する」ことを大いに促進する上でも、聴く体験性やコンテンツが物凄く大事です。 次々ユニークなコンテンツが探せる。聴ける。楽しめることが、まず充実していな限りユーザーはボールを再起動してくれませんし、その結果録音してシェアしようとする側にも、音声を録音してシェアしようという日々のモティベーションが継続できません。音声コンテンツの量や質は、ある程度迄はコントロール可能ですが、多くの人が聴きたくなる状態を自然に発生させるのは至難の技です。 ですので、聴く人にとっての体験性をしっかり高める操作性やコンテンツ性をいかに充実させるのか?こそが大きな課題であり、大きなチャレンジなのです。 上の図はボールアプリでユーザーがサインアップし、やがて成長して音声を録音シェアするまでの成長段階を表したものです。各ブロックのカラーは下から上に向かってヒートアップしていますが、コミットの深さ、熱の入りようを表しています。また、右側にオフセットしている機能は今は未だ無い。あるいは現在開発中の機能です。 ボールはもともとは音声によるグループチャット機能から始まったので、パブリックに音声コンテンツをシェアするよりは、プライベートに内輪の会話を楽しむという体験性を想定して開発されています。そこから音声のソーシャルなシェアリング主体に切り変わる過程で、ストーリーズや新着やコンテンツへのリアクションやシェア、ユーザー同士の発見とつながりをサポートする機能セットを続々追加しています。 ですので、聴く人にとっての音声コンテンツの発見と、楽しい再生体験についてはかなり遅れています。また、ユーザー同士がお互いの興味関心で繋がって音声コンテンツをシェアする流れに至る機能セットも急いで充実させてはいますが、まだまだ不足しています。 でも、16秒の短尺の音声データで世の中の動向を知ったり、面白いコンテンツを味わったり、ユニークな人たちのアイデアに触れたり、聞いたことがないようなストリートの音源に触れたり、詩の朗読を通じて誰かの精神に交わったり。それこそかつてのツイッターが体現していたような「世界の面白さはまだまだ無尽蔵無限大で、世の中も人も可能性に満ち満ちている。そこに限界はない(僕が当時ツイッターに感じていた、非常に楽観的な世界観を言葉にするとこんな感じです)」というビジョンに、また再び立ち戻れそうな、ポテンシャルを感じています。 では、また!チャオ!
